What is on – Week 14
WHAT’S HAPPENING @ YOUR COLLEGE LIBRARY
Yes! You guessed it – Halloween is just around the corner. To celebrate we have some Library displays to get you into the spirit of all things ghoulish – just please don’t feed the zombies!
International Games Week is here and libraries all over the world, including our very own Gungahlin College Library are joining in on the fun (and games). Come and get your Game Sheet from the College Library Staff and get your card stamped with each game played.
Reading Café is up and running on Tuesday mornings, during Line A from 11.20am–12.20pm at Café Ink. Come along and talk about novels, manga, authors and genres. Treats provided.
See you soon @ your College Library!
As the warmer weather arrives, we ask all students to ensure they maintain the standards set within our uniform policy. All students are required to wear Gungahlin College uniform as the outer layer of clothing. This acts to both strengthen our connection to the College community, and also enables staff to ensure that only Gungahlin College students enter the building. Students that arrive to College without a uniform will be required to borrow a shirt from our second hand clothing pool.
V GRADE ALERTS
V grade alerts have been emailed out to parents of students who have three or more unexplained absences in a unit or have not submitted a piece of assessment. These are warnings only. If a student receives an alert, it means that they are likely to be awarded a V grade if they do not take immediate action to explain any missed classes or submit any missed assessment. Please contact class teachers for the details of any particular alert.
DISRUPTION FREE AND TEST WEEK
Disruption Free Period starts Monday 6 November and continues until Monday 13 November. Tests will then be conducted Tuesday 14–Friday 17 November (Test Week) with an alternative Test Week Timetable running throughout this period.
Please ensure that students do not have external appointments during College hours as this is a time when tests are occurring and assessments may be due.
GOZZART: FESTIVAL OF ARTS AND DESIGN
Our annual Festival of Arts and Design, GozzArt, is on Tuesday 7 November, from 4.30pm. Showcasing the work of our talented and creative students, GozzArt is always a whole lot of fun and we’d love to see you there. GozzArt features some amazing artworks from our Visual Arts students, live music, an art auction sale and raffles, art stalls, a fashion parade, performances from Drama and Dance students, as well as the annual Project XII film festival which showcases the final films from our Year 12 media students.
REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY
A whole school assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day will be held on Friday 10 November commencing at 12.00pm in Town Park (the grassed area adjacent to the College). As the assembly is held during Connect, student attendance is compulsory. All parents and carers are invited to attend. This is a good opportunity to share the meaning of Remembrance with your student and also visit the Poppy Garden, which will have over 11 000 handcrafted poppies planted in the Domain.
CAREERS OPENING ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
The Careers office is open Wednesday nights from 4pm to 7.45pm on the first Wednesday of each month. The next night is Wednesday November 1st- THIS WEEK. Students must have all absences explained by Monday 13 November. Any absences not cleared by this date will be classed as unexplained and may jeopardise the successful completion of a unit.
LAST DAY FOR SUBMISSION OF SEMESTER 2 WORK
Students must submit any and all outstanding work for Semester 2 by Friday 17 November. No extensions can be considered past this date. Students who have not submitted 70% of the total assessment for any unit will receive a V grade for the unit and thus the unit will not count towards certificate requirements.
