What is on – Week 12
Congratulations to our Associate Principal, John Alston-Campbell, who has been given the opportunity to be Principal at UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra for Term 4. As this was a short notice appointment, we anticipate announcing the Acting Associate Principal in What is on next week.
AMAZING GUNGAHLIN COLLEGE COMMUNITY!
Earlier this week, we emailed families seeking help for one of our international students. The student needed a new homestay family to continue studying at Gungahlin College. The response to our request was incredible with several families offering a place in their home. Staff in the Education Directorate’s International Education Unit were astounded by the outpouring of support from the Gungahlin College community saying ‘The community spirit at your school is amazing!’.
From all of our staff, we thank our community for their generous spirit.

THE MENTAL STILLNESS APP
At this time of the year young people around Australia experience extraordinary levels of stress. Stress not only effects mental and physical health but can itself impact on school performance.
To help our young people deal with this issue Generation Next and Sydney University’s Department of Psychiatry have developed this free, evidence based, easy to use app. Designed specifically for young people, it quickly and effortlessly upskills young people with a simple, evidence based mindfulness/meditation method that reduces stress and improves mental wellbeing.
Although the Mental Stillness App was designed with school-aged young people in mind, it is also suitable for use by adults.
Welcome back to the final term of 2017. Many families will be preparing for postings as the end of the year looms closer. Whilst some aspects are common to all postings, every move has its unique challenges. If you are being posted and have any questions or queries on support services offered through the Department of Defence to help ease the difficulties associated with moving, please do not hesitate to email Marina Pilicic.
GUNGAHLIN COLLEGE POPPY GARDEN
The poppy garden is going to be blooming fabulous this year! The target of 10 000 poppies is within sight thanks to the many wonderful helpers from the all over Canberra and beyond. If you are currently working on poppies for the garden, can you please ensure they’re sent into the College no later than Friday 20 October to ensure they will be included in the display.
We would like to ensure that all of the people involved are invited to the official opening in November. We have had donations left at the Front Office without any details of the contributors. If you are one of those generous people, please email Marina Pilicic or call leave your details with the Front Office on 61421000.
