What is on – Week 12

LEADERSHIP CHANGE

Congratulations to our Associate Principal, John Alston-Campbell, who has been given the opportunity to be Principal at UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra for Term 4. As this was a short notice appointment, we anticipate announcing the Acting Associate Principal in What is on next week.

AMAZING GUNGAHLIN COLLEGE COMMUNITY!

Earlier this week, we emailed families seeking help for one of our international students. The student needed a new homestay family to continue studying at Gungahlin College. The response to our request was incredible with several families offering a place in their home. Staff in the Education Directorate’s International Education Unit were astounded by the outpouring of support from the Gungahlin College community saying ‘The community spirit at your school is amazing!’.

From all of our staff, we thank our community for their generous spirit.

THE MENTAL STILLNESS APP

At this time of the year young people around Australia experience extraordinary levels of stress. Stress not only effects mental and physical health but can itself impact on school performance.

To help our young people deal with this issue Generation Next and Sydney University’s Department of Psychiatry have developed this free, evidence based, easy to use app. Designed specifically for young people, it quickly and effortlessly upskills young people with a simple, evidence based mindfulness/meditation method that reduces stress and improves mental wellbeing.

Although the Mental Stillness App was designed with school-aged young people in mind, it is also suitable for use by adults.

You can download the Mental Stillness App from the iOS App Store or Google Play store.
