A message from the Principal
Dear parents, carers and students
We wish our students, families and staff a restful break after a long and busy term of assessments, excursions, activities and AST tests.
I’ve been so pleased to meet many of you at our Year 11 and Year 12 Parent Forums, to receive your feedback and connect with you in person. As a young college it’s important that we work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for the young people in our care.
I’ve also been incredibly proud to hear from the public about number of our students who have shown great citizenship and integrity in the larger Gungahlin community. These reports come as no surprise to us here, as we see these qualities in our students every day. I’ve included links to some Term 3 stories from around the College below so please take the time to scroll down and enjoy the articles.
I’d like to give a special congratulations to our P&C Treasurer Michael Rush. His community service has been recognised by the Commonwealth Bank 2017 Not-For-Profit Treasurer’s Awards. It’s great that we are able to recognise Michael’s service to the education community as a volunteer treasurer over many years.
A reminder that sometimes during the holidays students miss the daily routine of coming to College. They don’t see their friends as often and miss the regular face to face interactions. As both our psychologists are on leave during the break, please see below some guidance and advice should you have any mental health concerns.
Consider the following:
- Make an appointment with your GP for your young person
- Contact Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services 6205 1469 (b/h). Ask to speak to the duty officer and also let them know that your young person attends Gungahlin College.
- Contact the Crisis and Assessment Team 1800 629 354 (24 hrs)
- Attend Accident and Emergency at the nearest hospital with them
- Contact Headspace 6201 5343 (b/h)
- Contact the Office for Schools Student Engagement Team on 62057029
- For grief support contact Support Link on 0421 725 180 (24/7)
Thanks for all your support this term.
