What is on – Semester 2 Week 1

In the event of an emergency with your young person at the College, it is critical that our records are up to date so that we can reach you quickly. STUDY SUPPORT

As students receive their end of semester reports this week, we encourage parents and students to spend some time reflecting on the comments provided by individual teachers. Often these comments will provide a summary of achievements over the semester, and some important strategies for ensuring continued academic growth. A number of supports are available for students to further develop their skills, including Connect Enrichment Activities, Skills Schools and the Alumni Tutor Program. Students are advised to contact their individual teachers to discuss their comments in more detail.

 Study Support

A reminder that study support occurs in the library during Blended Learning time. Volunteer tutors from Raising Hope and the Alumni Tutor Program are available to assist students in a number of course areas. These sessions take place in the following time slots:

  • Wednesday mornings 8:30-9:30am, Upstairs Green, where students are also able to access a free breakfast.
  • Thursday afternoon 2:10-4:30pm, Library.

STUDENT WELLBEING

If students are struggling to cope, talking to their teachers and Connect teacher is always the first option. We also have a substantial wellbeing team at the College including House Co’s, Defence Transition Mentor, Youth Support Worker and a School Psychologist. Remember during the holidays, there are also services such as Headspace (1800 650 890), Lifeline (13 11 14), ReachOut and Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) that can be contacted.


AST – T STUDENTS

Year 12

On Wednesday 2 August, 8.25-9.30am, all Year 12 AST candidates are to attend a feedback session about the recent trial they completed in June. This session will be held in the main theatre. Students will receive their results for each of the three papers, and advice about how to improve.

For Year 12 students who were ill and unable to attend the AST Trial in June, there will be catch-up sessions:

  • Thursday 20 July Week 1, 2.10-4.30pm (Short Response paper), in L0.16
  • Thursday 27 July Week 2, 2.00-4.30pm (Multiple Choice paper), in L0.16

Students intending to attend these catch-up sessions need to complete this Google form.

Year 11

Every Friday 12.45-1.40pm during Term 3, Year 11 T students intending to sit the AST in 2018 will be attending the AST Preparation program as their CEA. These students may also enrol in a CEA that is being held during the Year 12 Connect time slot.

Attendance in the AST Preparation program is compulsory in order to prepare students for this test and to ensure students are accumulating enough points for Connect. Students’ group numbers and the timetable for this program will be advertised to students during the break via Schoology.

Year 11 T students will be sitting their first AST trial Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September 2017 – please add these dates to your calendars. Attendance is compulsory; absences are to be explained with a medical certificate, as with college assessment and the real AST.
